Position Overview
TAP Engineering is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety Officer to support leading-edge research and engineering. The EH&S Officer will serve as the primary point of contact for all environmental health and safety matters in the lab, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and best practices while supporting scientific and engineering teams. This role supports a research-focused environment where safety, compliance, and environmental stewardship are critical to mission success.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary liaison with environmental health and safety stakeholders
• Develop and maintain environmental and safety standard operating procedures (SOPs)
• Investigate accidents and incidents and ensure proper reporting and documentation
• Oversee decontamination procedures and support incident response activities
• Identify and address environmental health and safety concerns proactively
• Collaborate with project teams to develop and implement remediation plans
• Support scientific staff in developing SOPs that incorporate safe practices
• Maintain and manage hazardous chemical inventory
• Ensure proper labeling, storage, and documentation, including Safety Data Sheets (SDS), for all materials
• Conduct safety audits, inspections, and compliance reviews
• Ensure availability and condition of protective equipment and safety gear
• Maintain and distribute safety-related documentation and guidance
• Coordinate with emergency services and support emergency response efforts as needed

Required Qualifications

• Active TS/SCI clearance with appropriate polygraph
• Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline with 7+ years of experience, or Master’s degree in a related discipline with 5+ years of experience
• CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager) certification
• Strong understanding of environmental health and safety standards and practices
• Experience supporting laboratory, research, or technical environments
• Strong documentation, communication, and organizational skills
• Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with hazardous materials handling and compliance
• Familiarity with safety regulations and environmental compliance frameworks
• Experience conducting safety audits and risk assessments
• Demonstrated ability to implement and improve safety programs in technical environments

Compensation
The anticipated salary range for this position is $140,000–$175,000, based on relevant experience, qualifications, and other applicable factors. The compensation range provided is a general guideline and is not a guarantee of compensation or salary.

Clearance Requirement
This position requires an active TS/SCI security clearance with appropriate polygraph. Clearance processing and maintenance will be conducted in accordance with U.S. Government requirements.
